Two of the most important organs we use when exercising: our hears and our lungs.
Our lungs bring oxygen into our body, to provide energy and remove carbon dioxide.
Our heart pumps the oxygen around our body to the muscles that we use during exercise.
Our muscles work harder, our body uses more oxygen and therefore produces more carbon dioxide.
To handle the extra demand on our bodies, our breathing has to increase from about 15 times a minute (at resting 12 litres of air) to a whopping 40-60 times a minute (100 litres of air).
During exercise, we are more susceptible to airborne particles because we are breathing deeper and putting stress on our cardio and respiratory system.
The whole purpose of going to the gym is to get healthy. So why would you risk your health by breathing in toxic indoor air? Your gym’s indoor air quality could be contaminated as a result of dirty air conditioning system.
People that work out longer or more often have the potential to inhale more harmful substances into their lungs, as they are exposed to these conditions for longer periods of time and their breathing rates are increased.
The air pollutants are also particularly high during peak exercise times when dust and other particles are stirred up and all the gym users are huffing and puffing and producing more carbon dioxide. These particles are then recycled through the air conditioning system and blown back into the gym for occupants to inhale.
Gyms – not a breath of fresh air.
It is important that you are aware of your surroundings and if you do notice the air conditioner at your gym is contaminated, let the staff know straight away. Sanitair can clean and sanitise the air conditioner and offer a 12 month mould free guarantee to ensure all room occupants breath clean healthy air, guaranteed.
If you suffer from asthma or respiratory illness you are more at risk of an attack with a contaminated air conditioning system. If you smell a stale (dirty sock) odour it is more than likely the air conditioning system.
